The Park Ride
Saturdays. 8am from the third Sat in March to third Sat in November (inclusive). 9am all other times. Meet at Pen Ponds car park.
Our most popular ride, held in Richmond Park in one form or another for more than 20 years. Groups of eight ride four anticlockwise laps of the park’s road circuit (approximately 26 miles in total) in through-and-off formation, finishing at the Roehampton Gate cafe for coffee. It’s a great way to learn or hone your group riding skills. And don’t worry if you fall off the pace – there will always be another group behind to ride with.
All you need is a well-maintained road bike (no mountain bikes, folding bikes or TT bikes please). Newcomers’ rides, which are three laps (approximately 20 miles), take place on the first Saturday of every month throughout the year and on the first and third Saturdays in April, May and June. There is no need to contact us prior to the newcomers ride... just come along!
Surrey Hills and Windsor rides
Sundays, 9am. Meet at Hampton Court station.
Cyclists need a regular long endurance ride to improve fitness. This is ours. Once you are comfortable with the Parkride (see above), choose a hilly ride to Surrey or a flatter trip to Windsor. Distance is usually 50 to 60 miles. Fast and steady groups, each with no more than 12 riders. Steady rides include a cafe stop and will wait for riders – but please note that faster groups, which average 17mph or higher in the Surrey Hills, may not. Bring a pump, inner tubes, drink and food.
Chertsey loop (or laps of Richmond Park when daylight permits)
Wednesdays, 7:15pm. Meet at the Richmond Gate entrance to Richmond Park.
A fast, midweek blast for experienced riders. More than one group if numbers allow. Approximately 28 miles. Bring lights.
Drills and coaching
Thursday, 7pm, May to September. Meet in car park at Roehampton Gate (but do look at the forum for any changes to meeting spot).
A professional coach holds targeted training sessions in Richmond Park for racers and non-racers, fast or steady riders alike. An excellent way to reap big fitness gains – and the sessions are totally free to our members.
The shirkers’ ride
Thursday, 9:30am. Meet at Dish Cafe opposite Hampton Court Station.
For those lucky few who don’t need to be at work... or prefer not to. The destination – either Windsor, Fairoaks Airport, Surrey Hills or elsewhere – is chosen on the day. Pace is steady and the ride includes cake stop. Distance approximately 50 miles.
Youth and Junior riding
Dynamo Sparks (ages 8 to 14) and our Junior section (14 to 18) are the club’s initiatives to help young riders develop their fitness, skills and performance in all cycling disciplines. If you have a bike in good working order and a helmet in good condition, then please come along to one of our skills sessions which take place on grass each Saturday from 10am to 11.30am in the grounds of Kew and Ham Sports Association. The training fields are accessible from Ham Street opposite the main entrance to Ham House and this is also the place to register and sign-on at 9:45am with the Sparks' Coach.
We also offer Juniors monthly road rides in Richmond Park on Saturdays led by a coach with the help of a Dynamo volunteer. And on Tuesday nights from 7 to 8pm during the summer there are training sessions in Richmond Park, meeting at Pen Ponds car park. With the aim of becoming better riders, our female members usually ride alongside men on the rides listed above. We do, however, occasionally organise women-only groups which are announced on our website and via social media.
