Frequently Asked Questions

What if I lose my email containing my link/did not receive an email containing a link?
Not to worry. You can either email me requesting a new link or you can simply go to: http://www.londondynamo.co.uk/membership/update/ and enter the emails address that you used when you joined London Dynamo and a new email containing the link will be sent to you. If your email has changed you will need to contact me. This highlights the importance of keeping your contact details up to date if they should change at any point during the year. In fact, this is a condition of membership.

I don't seem to receive any emails from membership@londondynamo.co.uk
This could be that your email client or firewall is preventing emails from this address from being received. Please check in your junk or spam folders and whitelist the address membership@londondynamo.co.uk . Emails can also sometimes be delayed so be patient. If you still don't receive emails it may be that you're using the incorrect email addess. See the point above.

Are credit card transactions safe?
All credit card transactions are dealt with by the WorldPay secure environment. No credit card details are captured and stored on London Dynamo servers. For WorldPay security information please visit here...

Can I pay by cash/cheque?
I would really prefer you to use your credit/debit card for renewing your membership. It makes my life a lot easier! If you must pay by cash or cheque, you'll need to contact me to update your details manually. You'll owe me a coffee, though.

What happens if it goes wrong?
It's entirely possible that you may discover a bug! Please don't get angry, it's not a big deal. Simply contact me recounting as much detail of the steps you took which helps for me to put it right, then I will help you renew your subscription.

Why do you need so much information?
It's pretty standard stuff and most of it should be filled in for you already. It's important to know a little about club members so we can make decisions based on our members needs.

Is my personal information safe?
Yes, for starters email links are encrypted and unique. Secondly, we do not share your information with anyone full-stop. It's purely for internal purposes.

Can I opt-out of club newsletters and email/postal information?
No. Don't be absurd. You have joined a club. A club is a community that can only exist if we can share the commonalities bonding our members. The only way we can do that is to attend club rides and activities. How do you expect to know about club events if you opt-out of club communications?

Why do new members need 'seconding'?
Seconding has been implemented in order to increase the number of new members who are actively involved in London Dynamo. It's not to judge an individuals character or abilities but by obtaining a 'seconder' the prospective member has shown that they have attended a ride in person and actually intend to take part in club activities. This helps to increase the acitve core in our club making our community stronger and more cohesive as a club.

The immediate effect may be to decrease new subscriptions and reduce revenueslightly but since these more active members will be more engaged with the club they are also more likely to renew next year. The club membership will experience less churn and revenue will hopefully stabilise anyway.

Will it deter new members from joining? It will deter members who don't intend to ride with London Dynamo from joining. The least you can do if you're joining a community is to turn up. ALL new members need to attend the park ride newcomers group.

Why are subscriptions based on calendar year?
Ok, but please don't be offended by the answer. By and large the cycling season runs from January to October. British Cycling race licences issued for this period so once the member has got their race licence they can effectively ride for London Dynamo whether they are a member or not. Another significant reason is the ease of administration. It is very difficult to identify members at races, club rides and activities who have not paid their subscriptions if subscriptions are renewed at different times throughout the year. This could lead to such measures as registration at the Park Ride or tags on bikes for instance both of which aren't workable or welcome solutions for the majority.

What happens if I don't renew?
You will no longer be a member of London Dynamo. You won't receive club communications, won't be able to attend club rides or events, will be barred from the bulletin board and, although we can't physically remove it from you, you won't have the right to wear the kit or buy any further kit. You also won't receive your BC licence or be allowed to race for London Dynamo. Early in the year we often have registrations at club rides and I frequently check start sheets and results. You will be an outcast doomed to a life of mediocraty!
Ok, that's taking it a bit far but please stay with us, we're a great club!

I've moved away but I still want to be a member
We have a special arrangement for non-domicile Dyanmos. If you have moved somewhere else in the UK you'll need to renew in the same way as everyone else. If you are moving or have moved abroad you can contact me and I'll make sure you stay in touch with us.

Who built this system?
I did, and it's not my job so be nice. Seriously, come and discuss any suggestions you may have, preferably in person rather than via email.
