Each year London Dynamo organises club rides. They are a chance for the whole club – across a range of abilities – to come together. These are regular annual rides.
The Big Surrey Ride is a summer social ride that climbs several of the Surrey Hills: Staples Lane to Shere, Leith Hill via Abinger Road, then the climb up Ranmore Hill, and finally the classic Box Hill climb.
Coming down from the hills, the route heads for Hampton Court, through Bushy Park to The Anglers Pub in Teddington for lunch.
Starting point: Dish Café, East Molesey.
Suggested café stop: Box Hill Servery (59 km).
Lunch Stop: The Anglers, Teddington.
The Tour of the Isle of Wight is now a London Dynamo summer tradition.
After an early morning ferry from Portsmouth, the route goes anti-clockwise round the island, taking in the chain link ferry at Cowes, the steep climb up to the view point of the Needles and the fast but breezy Military Road.
After a lunch stop in Ventnor some steep climbs are superseded by a very rolling route back to the ferry terminal. There is also an alternative option of a short cut across the island.
WARNING: there is a dangerous adverse camber on a tight right hand corner – after the descent that is just before Shanklin (at c. 92km). Descend into that corner with care.
The London-Brighton-London ride is another summer event. Starting just ahead of the official London-to-Brighton ride, London Dynamo’s event starts by Wandsworth Common before heading due south out of London and down through Sussex.
The road to Brighton is generally flat to rolling with one notable exception – a long climb up and over Ditchling Beacon, before a very fast descent down to the coast.
The route back is more rolling and finds its way through the eastern side of the Surrey Hills.
Starting point: The Hope, Wandsworth Common.
Breakfast stop: The Regency Café, Brighton (85km).
