Our Rides

We offer more club rides, greater route variety, and more coaching opportunities than any other cycling club in London. It’s just one of the many benefits of being part of one of the UK’s largest and most successful cycling and racing clubs. Our rides cater for everyone from serious race hitters to the more casual social rider. Click here for our full Rides Calendar.

That adds up to over 400 organised club rides & coaching sessions every year—and that’s not even counting our calendar of social & learning events.

Our extensive club ride programme supports our mission as a performance-oriented club dedicated to helping our members improve and progress in their cycling development. We offer a range of both mixed rides and women-only rides, catering to different levels and goals within the club.

While our main cycling club rides are for adult members only,  junior members can participate in junior club rides. For more information on this please contact us.

WEEKEND

SATURDAYS

SUNDAYS

Saturday Park Ride

The Saturday Park Ride is our most popular weekly ride, and has been held in Richmond Park for more than 20 years. It is designed as a general practice ride for riding efficiently and safely in groups. Groups of six ride four anticlockwise laps of the park’s road circuit (approximately 26 miles/42 km) in through-and-off (or ‘chain gang’) formation. It’s a great way to learn or hone your group riding skills.

Separately and starting half an hour after the main Saturday Park Ride above, the Dynamellow ride is for members who would prefer to ride at a slower, less competitive pace. These are ideal for newcomers, slower riders, those recovering from injury or sickness, or members putting new skills into practice. Oh, did we mention it’s also only three laps. This ride has an absolute ‘no drop’ policy.

Time & Meeting Point

Meet at Pen Ponds Cafe car park at the seasonal times below:

  • Spring – Mar & Apr – 7.45 am
  • Summer – May to Aug – 7.15 am
  • Autumn – Sep & Oct – 7.45 am
  • Winter – Nov to Feb – 8.15 am
High Intensity Training Ride (HITR)

The HITR is organised by the Race Team.  As the name suggests it is a ‘drop ride’ and runs at a very high level of intensity aimed at Cat 3 racers and above. There is a dedicated women’s group within this ride.  It is an early morning ride going out ahead of the main Park Ride. Sometimes it takes the form of laps of Richmond Park or sometimes on nearby fast-flowing road circuits from our Route Book.

  • Rides start generally at 7.00 am when outside of the Park. When inside the Park it will depend on light conditions and gate access. Check sign up sheet to confirm.
  • Saturday club rides event calendar.
Windsor & Thames Valley Ride

The rides to Windsor and nearby are some of our most popular rides throughout the year. There are usually multiple groups going out in different pace groups (steady & fast), including a steady marshalled non-drop group. Each Sunday a nominated group leader (on a rota) will take the non-drop group out on one of the circuits from the Windsor and Thames Valley section of the Route Book. The route chosen will be publicised on the forum and the Sunday Rides Whatsapp group at least by the preceding Wednesday.  Riders are expected to download the route to their bike computer. There may well be more than one group with the groups dividing up according to ability.

The Explorer Ride

The Explorer Ride is also a non-drop ride except this time the group leader (on a rota) will choose a ride from anywhere in the Route Book other than the Windsor & Thames Valley section. The route chosen will be publicised on the forum and the Sunday Rides Whatsapp group at least by the preceding Wednesday. Riders are expected to have downloaded the route to their bike computer.

  • The ride starts at 8.30 am and the start point varies every week.

The Endurance Ride

The Endurance Ride is a complementary ride aimed at those who do the HITR ride. This is a longer ride, more endurance-based than high intensity but still at a comparatively high pace with no stops until the end. The route can be any route from our Route Book and chosen in advance. Riders are expected to download the route to their bike computer. There is a sign-up sheet.

  • The ride starts at 7.30 am or 8.00 am depending on route and time of year.  Check sign-up sheet to confirm.
  • Sunday club rides event calendar.
The Gravel Ride

The Gravel Ride runs every Sunday and sometimes on various other days the Ride Leader chooses. Routes vary and are taken from the Gravel section of the Route Book.

  • The ride usually starts at 08:30am from the Coppernose Cafe opposite Hampton Court Palace, unless advised otherwise.

MIDWEEK

TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS

WEDNESDAYS

Midweek Rides [Morning]

These morning mid-week rides were originally started by members with flexible work schedules, worked from home or those who were retired—hence the nickname “The Slackers’ Ride.”

The Tuesday Hills Ride departs at 9:30am (after the all-important morning coffee). It typically covers around 80km, returning by 1pm, though it can go longer—so bring plenty of nutrition and avoid early afternoon commitments.

The Thursday Ride is usually flatter, heading west along the Thames Valley to Windsor or beyond, offering a more scenic and steady alternative.

Today, these rides attract members from across the club—especially those on holiday, between jobs, or simply taking a mid-week break. But don’t let the name fool you: “Slackers” doesn’t mean slow! While there’s no intention to drop riders, the pace in faster groups can be brisk. Riders should be self-reliant, familiar with the route (or have it downloaded), and prepared to drop back to a slower group if needed.

Like our Saturday Park Ride, groups form based on pace, and being in the right group makes all the difference to your enjoyment. Routes and ride details—such as expected pace, regrouping points, or coffee stops (if any!)—are usually agreed just before the ride rolls out, depending on weather and who turns up. Sometimes, they’re shared the night before on the LD Slackers WhatsApp group.

New riders are always welcome—just make yourself known so we can help you get the most out of the ride!

LD Goes... [North, South, East, West]

LD Goes is a new concept for the club where our spirit for adventure meets the open roads. This is not just another weekend spin, but about pushing yourself to do something different.

Rather than focusing on how fast you can go, or how many kilometres you can clock up, why not try a new route? Maybe a point-to-point rather than the usual Surrey hills? Or maybe even a weekend stay somewhere and exploring a completely different environment?

LD Goes is not just a ride, but an evolving series, starting with LD Goes North in its inaugural year. This is a long one-way ride, from London to Cambridge, before relaxing with a pub lunch finish.

Ride Captain's Challenge

New for 2025, this competition set by our Rides Captain involves riding & climbing some of the South of England’s most challenging routes. There is over 600km of riding and just under 10,000m of climbing which is higher than Everest and about the cruising height of a commercial airliner. The climbs involved also include a roll call of infamy: Barhatch, Leith Hill, Toys Hill and Hogtrough Hill to name but a few. The competition includes a league table and prizes for first member to complete all five routes as well a league table for the lowest time over selected climb sections. Prizes are awarded from our sponsors at our annual Awards Night.

Women-Only Rides

Whether you prefer women-only rides or mixed group rides, or even a bit of both, the choice is entirely yours.

For those who are already members, we aim to organise a women-only ride on the second Saturday of each month, details of which are shared in the women’s London Dynamo WhatsApp group. This WhatsApp group is also used regularly to communicate other ad-hoc plans and find people to ride with.

Throughout the year, we also aim to host a couple of women’s open days in which women who are not currently members can take the opportunity to join a women-only ride with us, usually followed by a coffee and socialising at a local cafe.

For more information about our women’s rides, please contact our Women’s Captain.

  • Women only club rides event calendar. All other club rides are mixed.
Junior Rides

Junior rides are available to both male and female members (14-17 years), and generally mirror those offered to the wider membership. Riders are placed in appropriate groups with a view to their skills and capabilities.

We use a Chaperone System with an identified adult club member. This ensures that a Junior receives advice and support as required. Parents/guardians are kept advised on the rides offered on a weekly basis, and are also aware which of the club rides their Junior is attending.

Zwift Rides, e-Racing & Workouts

Throughout the year we ride both socially and participate in some of the major Zwift racing leagues. Please check out this page for more information.

If interested, please contact our Zwift rides organiser.

Non-Affiliated Sportives

The club Forum is very active with members self-organising groups to ride some of the UK’s favourite Sportives including the Kentish Killer, the Hell of the Ashdown, the Dragon Ride and many other classics. Members also travel together to ride some of the most prestigious international Sportives or endurance races including the Maratona Dles Dolomites, La Marmotte, Mallorca 312 and L’Etape du Tour. None of these Sportives or endurance races are affiliated in any way with London Dynamo and require members to self-organise.
