London Dynamo offers more club rides, more routes and more variety of pace than any other London club. We cater for everyone from serious race hitters to the the more casual enthusiastic cyclists. Our membership also stretches from people in their teens to people in their eighties.
While our main cycling club rides are for adult members only, junior members can participate in junior club rides, please contact us here.
The HITR is organised by the Race Team. As the name suggests it is a ‘drop ride’ and runs at a very high level of intensity aimed at Cat 3 racers and above. There is a dedicated women’s group within this ride. It is an early morning ride going out ahead of the main Park Ride. Sometimes it takes the form of laps of Richmond Park while it is still very quiet or sometimes on nearby fast-flowing circuits from our Route Book.
Rides start at generally start at 7.00 am when outside of the Park. When inside the Park it will depend on light conditions and gate access. Check sign up sheet to confirm.
Our most popular weekly ride, held in Richmond Park for more than 20 years. It is designed as a general practice ride for riding efficiently and safely in groups. Groups of 6 to 8 ride four anticlockwise laps of the park’s road circuit (approximately 26 miles/42 km) in through-and-off (or ‘chain gang’) formation. It’s a great way to learn or hone your group riding skills.
Saturday Park Rides meet at Pen Ponds Cafe car park at the seasonal times below:
Spring – Mar & Apr – 7.45 am
Summer – May to Aug – 7.15 am
Autumn – Sep & Oct – 7.45 am
Winter – Nov to Feb – 8.15 am
Saturdays also host our Dynamellow ride at the same meeting point, starting half an hour after the main Saturday Park Ride above. These rides are for members who would prefer to ride at a slower, less competitive pace. Ideal for newcomers, slower riders, those recovering from injury or sickness, or members putting new skills into practice. Oh, did we mention it’s also only three laps. This ride has an absolute ‘no drop’ policy.
The Endurance Ride is a complementary ride aimed at those who do the HITR ride. This is a longer ride, more endurance-based than high intensity but still at a comparatively high pace with no stops until the end. The route can be any route from our Route Book and chosen in advance. Riders are expected to download the route to their bike computer. There is a sign-up sheet. The ride starts at 7.30 am or 8.00 am depending on route and time of year. Check sign-up sheet to confirm.
The rides to Windsor and nearby are some of our most popular rides throughout the year. Each Saturday a nominated group leader (on a rota) will take a non-drop group out on one of the circuits from the Windsor and Thames Valley section of the route book. The route chosen will be flagged at least 48 hours in advance. Riders are expected to download the route to their bike computer. There may well be more than one group with the groups dividing up according to ability. The ride starts at 8.30 am.
The Explorer Ride is also a non-drop ride except this time the group leader (on a rota) will choose a ride from anywhere in the Route Book other than the Windsor & Thames Valley section. The chosen route will be announced a minimum of 48 hours before the ride. There is a sign up sheet and riders are expected to have downloaded the route to their bike computer The ride starts at 8.30 am.
The mid-week morning rides, sometimes affectionately known as the ‘slackers rides’ are non-drop rides. Tuesday tends to be a hilly ride and Thursday tends to be a flat ride.
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am. Meet at Dish Cafe opposite Hampton Court Train Station.
The Wednesday Night Ride is a high-intensity ride in the Richmond Park. This is very much a drop ride aimed at those interested in racing.
Wednesdays, usually 6:45pm up to a 7:15pm start depending on the daylight. Meeting point is at Roehampton Gate car park next to Colicci cafe. Check the Forum for more details.
Whether you prefer women-only rides or mixed group rides, or even a bit of both, the choice is entirely yours.
For those who are already members, we aim to organise a women-only ride on the second Saturday of each month, details of which are shared in the women’s London Dynamo WhatsApp group. This WhatsApp group is also used regularly to communicate other ad-hoc plans and find people to ride with.
Throughout the year, we also aim to host a couple of women’s open days in which women who are not currently members can take the opportunity to join a women-only ride with us, usually followed by a coffee and socialising at a local cafe.
For more information about our women’s rides, please contact our Women’s Captain.
Junior rides are available to both male and female members (14-17 years), and generally mirror those offered to the wider membership. Riders are placed in appropriate groups with a view to their skills and capabilities.
We use a Chaperone System with an identified adult club member. This ensures that a Junior receives advice and support as required. Parents/guardians are kept advised on the rides offered on a weekly basis, and are also aware which of the club rides their Junior is attending.
The annual round the island tour of the Isle of Wight has two route lengths. A longer and hillier full circumnavigation of the island and a shorter gentler route. The club provide supports cars and a social lunch stop is organised for a well earned break.
The famous London-Brighton-London ride on closed roads. Typically leaving from Wandsworth common, this route follows the classic route to Brighton and then loops back to our starting point in Wandsworth. In Brighton we stop for a well earned breakfast.
The Big Ride encourages everyone to socialise and get to know their fellow Dynamo. Offering both a short and long routes, this is a non-drop ride on a classic route in the Surrey Hills. Routes may vary every year. The ride is followed by a stop in a pub for social refreshments.
The annual Christmas Ride to Windsor departs from Dish Cafe. We ride to Windsor and return to our spiritual home in Richmond Park where we eat a hearty club Christmas lunch in a nearby pub. These rides will be advertised on our club Forum as well as our social media.
The club Forum is very active with members self-organising groups to ride some of the UK’s favourite Sportives including the Kentish Killer, the Hell of the Ashdown, the Dragon Ride and many other classics. Members even travel together to ride some of the most prestigious international Sportives or endurance races including the Maratona Dles Dolomites, La Marmotte, Mallorca 312 and L’Etape du Tour. None of these Sportives or endurance races are affiliated in any way with London Dynamo and require members to self-organise.
London Dynamo is a British Cycling affiliated cycling club.
