A scenic Kent cycling route down to Chiddingstone

Key Route Details:

  • Start/Finish: Gails Bakery, Clapham Old Town, London
  • Highlights: Clark’s Lane descent, Brasted Chart, the village of Chiddingtone, Ide Hill climb
  • Terrain: Hills

The Bough Beech Loop cycling route crosses two ridges of the Downs, first over Biggin Hill via the Beddlestead and then the Brasted Chart climb over Toys Hill before heading to Chiddingstone. The return return passes through Bough Beech reservoir and up Ide Hill to the stunning views at the top.

Suggested Café: Tulip Café, Chiddingstone (49 km).

The Shere Loop cycling route into the Surrey Hills ups the elevation a bit. Rather than using Staple Lane to climb to Shere, this route takes Shere Road and Combe Lane up to the woodlands where  there is then a loop with a series of climbs and descents including St. Martha’s Hill, Alderbook Road and Sandy Lane.
