Gravel Cycling Routes from London

Gravel cycling routes from London, built and ridden by London Dynamo members. Expect a mix of tracks, bridleways and quiet lanes, with distances to suit a long training ride on a gravel bike.

These routes cover Epping Forest and the Lee Valley, Box Hill, Frensham Ponds, Guildford, Chartwell and more. Ride leaders can use them to plan a club ride. We recommend that every rider loads the route onto their Garmin or Wahoo bike computer.

Each route has a GPX file, an interactive map, an elevation profile, distance and climbing figures, a Terrain label from flat to challenging, and cafe stops where we have them, so you can match a route to the group and the day.

Ride at your own risk

The routes in this Route Book have been researched with the intention that they are suitable for cycling, but not all routes have been physically road-tested. Even routes that have been ridden may contain hazards, including potholes, loose chippings, poor road surfaces, steep descents and unforeseen dangers. Road and traffic conditions can change at any time. Anyone choosing to ride a route from this Route Book does so entirely at their own risk and is responsible for assessing whether the route and conditions are suitable for them.

A clockwise gravel circuit from Richmond Park over Wimbledon Common to the woods around Chessington and Oxshott.
A long, moderate gravel climb through the woods to Box Hill, anti-clockwise from Hampton Court.
A flat start, then a gravel climb past Chantry Wood to the top of St Martha’s Hill.
Gravel tracks partly along the river and partly into the Surrey Hills, starting and finishing at Hampton Court.
A gravel loop through the Box Hill area, then on to Ranmore Common, White Downs and Effingham Forest.
Gravel up past the lakes and marshes of the Lee Valley, then back down through the heart of Epping Forest.
Gravel tracks through the western end of the Surrey Hills, with a steep climb to Netley Heath and Effingham Forest.
Off-road tracks across the heathland and common land of south-western Surrey, around Frensham Ponds.
A largely off-road ride from Hampton Court into Kent to Churchill’s family home at Chartwell, returning through the woods of Toys Hill.
Extends the Chartwell loop south to Hever Castle and Chiddingstone, with a steep climb up York’s Hill on the way home.
