High Intensity Training Ride Routes

Routes for high intensity training rides, built and ridden by London Dynamo members for race training. Expect harder, focused sessions on climbs and fast roads close to London.

These routes use Box Hill, Newlands Corner, Ranmore, Effingham and the roads around Cobham and Leatherhead, plus loops near Heathrow. Ride leaders can use them to plan a club ride. We recommend that every rider loads the route onto their Garmin or Wahoo bike computer.

Each route has a GPX file, an interactive map, an elevation profile, distance and climbing figures, a Terrain label from flat to challenging, and cafe stops where we have them, so you can match a route to the group and the day.

Ride at your own risk

The routes in this Route Book have been researched with the intention that they are suitable for cycling, but not all routes have been physically road-tested. Even routes that have been ridden may contain hazards, including potholes, loose chippings, poor road surfaces, steep descents and unforeseen dangers. Road and traffic conditions can change at any time. Anyone choosing to ride a route from this Route Book does so entirely at their own risk and is responsible for assessing whether the route and conditions are suitable for them.

A flat, unimpeded spin around Heathrow Airport, ideal for a high-tempo time trial.
A High Intensity Training Ride of rolling hills through Cobham and Leatherhead, with no steep climbs to worry about.
An unusual High Intensity Training Ride out through Leatherhead and Westhumble, comparatively flat apart from the eponymous lump in the middle.
The clue is in the name: a loop through Shepperton, Chertsey and Chobham that looks flat but does not feel it.
A High Intensity Training Ride over the classic Box Hill and up the steep Pebble Hill, returning through Epsom and Chessington.
A High Intensity Training Ride through Effingham and over Box Hill, with two lumps along the way that are not so sweet.
A High Intensity Training Ride through Esher and the Horsleys to the viewpoint at Newlands Corner, with a fast descent in the mix.
A long flat straight for building speed endurance, on a road used for CTT club time trials.
