The club trailed Le Col Racing Team in fourth place at one stage, down 134 points with eight rounds to go, before storming back to end up in first by just 15 points.
In the final round at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit, three Dynamos finished in the top 10 of the women’s E/1/2/3 race as Cece Liu, Emma Pike, and Lavinia Chiodi Daelli all crossed the line in sixth, ninth and 10th respectively. Cece, who had already wrapped up third overall in the women’s individual standings, signed off the season in style following a stellar campaign.
Tom Evans took second in the men’s cat 3 race, with William Morris securing 10th, before Alex Mutter, Ed Patton, and Will Barker helped sweep up the remaining points-paying positions in the cat 4s race during round 18.
West Thames League race organiser Chris Denman said: “After a season where Le Col were running away with the team league [championship], a superb effort by London Dynamo by getting lots of their riders over the last few weeks saw them overhaul them with one round to go.
“Even though Le Col featured well in the results – the E/1/2/3 and 3rds – London Dynamo, with their large numbers racing – especially in the 4ths and women’s races – still held the advantage to take top spot.”
Cece received her trophy during the presentations ceremony and stood on the podium steps alongside second-place Harri Martin, of Wolfox CAMS Le Col Racing Team, and London Academy’s Grace Sergeant who was first overall.
The club’s season was undoubtedly helped by an enthusiastic core of women racers, who at one point even secured a clean podium sweep in round 16.
The Prosecco was then uncorked as the team (pictured) celebrated winning the championship alongside racers from Le Col RT and Ride Revolution, who finished third. It caps a successful title defence after the club won the team championship last season by just one point!
Race team manager James Northway said: “Winning the West Thames League is, in some ways, miraculous. After attending some cat 4 race accreditation at the same circuit in March, there was clearly some work to do ahead of the new season.
“But fast forward to August, the same racers were scoring points on a weekly basis and securing cat 3 licences. Free of studies, our juniors also got revved up and added to the points tally to secure our comeback. I am very proud of the team’s efforts and the spirit shown by all.”
Emma, who helped lead the charge and secured a podium finish with Cece in round 12, said she was “so proud of the club winning the league”.
She added: “I have had so much fun leading and racing with both super strong women and men, particularly when our races have merged. We have had countless placings, multiple wins, upgraded to cat 3 licences, two clean sweeps of the podium, and Cece coming third in the league.”
