About this route
This route was designed by the organisers of the Hell of the Ashdown, run by Flamme Rouge Events, not by London Dynamo.
Sportive routes change from year to year, and this page uses the distances and climbing published by the organisers. Event details are on the Hell of the Ashdown site.
On the route
Hell of the Ashdown starts and finishes at Lingfield Racecourse in Surrey and runs through the Kent and Sussex countryside around Ashdown Forest. The organisers list eight named ascents: Toys Hill, Col de Barden, Hubbards, Star Hill, Twyford Lane, Kidds Hill (known as The Wall), Col de Groombridge and Crockham Hill.
This page uses the 2026 route, because the organisers have not yet published the 2027 route. It is the provisional route for now, and we will revisit this page from time to time to swap in the actual 2027 route once it is out.
The organisers, Flamme Rouge Events, have also run the same route a second time later in the year, as the Angel of the Ashdown (last held in September 2025), so it is worth checking their site for any repeat.
The route measures 93.2km with 1,666m of climbing, which gives it a Terrain label of Challenging. Its notable climbs are listed below.
This page is for riding the route outside the sportive, on your own or with friends. There are no organised feed stops, so plan your food and water for the day.
Event names and logos belong to their owners and are shown for identification only. London Dynamo is not affiliated with these events.
