From smooth, iconic ascents to brutally steep lanes that never seem to end, here are ten of the best and toughest climbs in the Surrey Hills – climbs every rider should experience at least once.
The London to Whitstable one-way cycling route heads south over Crystal Palace, out of London, before the climb up the side of Biggin Hill.
The Deep Kent Woods cycling route extends the Chiddingstone-based routes with a longer loop deeper into Kent (indeed to the edge of East Sussex).
The Milk Churn Loop cycling route explores the area between Godalming and the West Sussex border. Heading south out of Cobham the route heads up to Shere and the wooded areas beyond, before dropping down through Ewhurst and to Rudgwick near the border. The loop then swings round to the west skirting Godalming and Guildford before returning north.
This cycling route route heads west via Virginia Water before heading north towards Maidenhead, where it turns back, stopping by Dorney Court before a return via Windsor.
