About this route

This route was designed by the organisers of the Surrey Hills Cyclone, part of the Cycling Weekly sportive series, not by London Dynamo.

Sportive routes change from year to year, and this page follows the Epic route from the years when the event started in Dorking. The Surrey Hills Cyclone is no longer run.

On the route

The Surrey Hills Cyclone was a spring sportive that packed the best of the Surrey Hills into one day. The Epic route, about 138km, starts in Dorking and climbs Ranmore Common by way of West Humble. It passes through Albury and Cranleigh, where Barhatch Lane comes early, loops through Peaslake and crosses the Low Weald, then turns north to Leith Hill and finishes with the steep climb of White Down before dropping back into Dorking.

It is a demanding day. The route measures 140.1km, and the steep ramps on several of the Surrey Hills climbs are what give it its Terrain label. White Down was described by the organisers as a 20% climb.

This page is for riding the route outside the sportive, on your own or with friends. There are no organised feed stops, so plan your food and water for the day.

Event names and logos belong to their owners and are shown for identification only. London Dynamo is not affiliated with these events.

The clue is in the name: a loop through Shepperton, Chertsey and Chobham that looks flat but does not feel it.
