Cycling Routes

Route Book - Cycling Routes. Explore London, The Thames Valley, Surrey Hills, Kent, the Chilterns and Essex

The London Dynamo Route Book brings together the best road cycling routes from London – built, ridden, and refined by club members over decades of riding. Every route comes with a downloadable GPX file, an interactive map, full elevation profile, and distance data, so you know exactly what you’re taking on before you clip in.

From fast, flat loops designed for high-intensity training to long Surrey Hills epics taking in Box Hill, Ranmore Common, and Leith Hill, there’s a route for every objective and every day on the bike. Routes range from 14km sprint circuits to 100km+ endurance days, with elevation gains from a handful of metres to well over 1,500m – all clearly displayed so you can match the ride to your ambitions. Head south through the Thames Valley for rolling, traffic-light roads, or east into the Kent hills for quiet lanes that feel a world away from the city. North through Hertfordshire and the Chilterns, steady climbs build the kind of endurance that pays off on race day. Essex opens up for big, open roads ideal for nailing your power targets.

Whether you’re building a training block, prepping for a sportive, training for a race or just want an exceptional day in the saddle  – start here.

The Knatt's Valley cycling route goes a bit further east along the Pilgrim's Way between the ridges of the Downs before turning left for a fairly steep climb up through Rowdow Wood. The route then descends into the picturesque Knatt's Valley.
The Kent Ramp Hunter is a relatively short but VERY challenging ride that takes on some of the steepest climbs in the area.
This Effingham Forest gravel circuit explores the western end of the Surrey Hills with a steep section up to Netley Heath and Effingham Forest.
This Tanhouse & Denbies Loop cycling route heads south out of Cobham and climbs up to White Downs and then Leith Hill. The route then descends down into a loop towards Rusper where the route heads north back towards London via Denbies Farm and Juniper.
This loop takes an alternative route out of London via Beulah Hill, heads down to Chiddingstone via Hosey Hill before looping round for the long picturesque climb up Bayley's Hill.
The Bough Beech Loop cycling route crosses two ridges of the Downs, first over Biggin Hill via the Beddlestead and then the Brasted Chart climb over Toys Hill before heading to Chiddingstone. The return return passes through Bough Beech reservoir and up Ide Hill to the stunning views at the top.
The London to Oxford one-way route heads out west from Kingston, shadowing the Thames, through Twyford and Henley and on into the Chilterns.
The Dragonfly Loop cycling route heads west to Dinton Pastures Nature Reserve. On the return leg, the route ends up on the same fast return as the Windsor Classic Loop.
A fast and flat cycling route that takes in Drift Road.
The Knowl Hill Loop cycling route heads out in the direction of Wargrave and Henley but before it reaches Wargrave loops back around the paved parts of the Knowl Hill Bridleway.
The Hever Loop cycling route is a bit more challenging than the loop via Bough Beech. Instead of going south over Toys Hill and north over Ide Hill, it does the reverse. This allows for the exhilarating Ide Hill descent and, after a Chiddingstone stop and a loop around Hever Castle, climbing the more challenging north side of Toys Hill, and another great descent down Brasted Chart.
The Kingdom Loop cycling route initially follows the line of the Chartwell Loop but then heads further south beyond Chiddingstone to the Kingdom Café.  On the return leg it follows the route of the Bough Beech loop.
