Cycling Routes

Route Book - Cycling Routes. Explore London, The Thames Valley, Surrey Hills, Kent, the Chilterns and Essex

The London Dynamo Route Book brings together the best road cycling routes from London – built, ridden, and refined by club members over decades of riding. Every route comes with a downloadable GPX file, an interactive map, full elevation profile, and distance data, so you know exactly what you’re taking on before you clip in.

From fast, flat loops designed for high-intensity training to long Surrey Hills epics taking in Box Hill, Ranmore Common, and Leith Hill, there’s a route for every objective and every day on the bike. Routes range from 14km sprint circuits to 100km+ endurance days, with elevation gains from a handful of metres to well over 1,500m – all clearly displayed so you can match the ride to your ambitions. Head south through the Thames Valley for rolling, traffic-light roads, or east into the Kent hills for quiet lanes that feel a world away from the city. North through Hertfordshire and the Chilterns, steady climbs build the kind of endurance that pays off on race day. Essex opens up for big, open roads ideal for nailing your power targets.

Whether you’re building a training block, prepping for a sportive, training for a race or just want an exceptional day in the saddle  – start here.

The Twyford Drift route is a fast and flat route out to Twyford via Drift Road and back via Windsor.
The Shoreham Loop cycling route initially follows the line of the Chartwell Loop but then heads further south in a loop around Hever, up through Chiddingstone, before the long climb up Hubbards Hill. Skirting around Sevenoaks, the route goes through the pretty village of Shoreham before the wooded climb up Chelfield Lane (not one to do after heavy rain) before the leg back to London.
Following the same alternative route out of London as the Bayley Hill Loop but this time going on to Shoreham for a wider circuit back to London.
The Epping Forest Figure of Eight cycling route is a middle-distance ride out of London to the Forest and the surrounding area and return back to London.
The Milk Churn Loop cycling route explores the area between Godalming and the West Sussex border. Heading south out of Cobham the route heads up to Shere and the wooded areas beyond, before dropping down through Ewhurst and to Rudgwick near the border. The loop then swings round to the west skirting Godalming and Guildford before returning north.
The Wendover Loop cycling route takes a steady climb out of West London, leaving London north of Uxbridge before heading into the heart of the Chilterns.
The Henley Loop cycling route is another longer but fast flowing variant that heads, south of Windsor Great Park to Wargrave and then rejoining the Thames at Henley.
The North Kent Woods & Downs cycling route heads out into the Dickens country of the North Kent Woods & Downs National Nature Reserve. The route involves a fair amount of climbing in the first half of the ride culminating in Vigo Hill just before the café stop in the woods of Trosley Country Park.
The Marlow & Henley Loop is a scenic long-distance road cycling route following both sides of the River Thames through Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. This anti-clockwise Thames Valley loop links Hampton Court, Windsor, Marlow and Henley-on-Thames, making it one of the classic longer rides west of London.
This gravel route broadly mirrors the Frensham Pond Loop route in the Surrey Hills section but this time favours off-road tracks, exploring more of the heathland and Frensham Common itself in the south-western corner of Surrey.
The Devil's Punchbowl cycling route offers up a longer ride with some of the most spectacular views in the Surrey Hills. The route has two notable climbs: the climb up Chalk Lane and Combe Lane through Effingham Forest and a longer climb up Punchbowl Lane to Hindhead Common and the Devil's Punchbowl.
This London to Cambridge one-way cycling route is fast, fairly flat ride leaving London via the City, through Epping Forest before heading into the stunning countryside of rural Essex and Cambridgeshire.
