Cycling Routes

Route Book - Cycling Routes. Explore London, The Thames Valley, Surrey Hills, Kent, the Chilterns and Essex

The London Dynamo Route Book brings together the best road cycling routes from London – built, ridden, and refined by club members over decades of riding. Every route comes with a downloadable GPX file, an interactive map, full elevation profile, and distance data, so you know exactly what you’re taking on before you clip in.

From fast, flat loops designed for high-intensity training to long Surrey Hills epics taking in Box Hill, Ranmore Common, and Leith Hill, there’s a route for every objective and every day on the bike. Routes range from 14km sprint circuits to 100km+ endurance days, with elevation gains from a handful of metres to well over 1,500m – all clearly displayed so you can match the ride to your ambitions. Head south through the Thames Valley for rolling, traffic-light roads, or east into the Kent hills for quiet lanes that feel a world away from the city. North through Hertfordshire and the Chilterns, steady climbs build the kind of endurance that pays off on race day. Essex opens up for big, open roads ideal for nailing your power targets.

Whether you’re building a training block, prepping for a sportive, training for a race or just want an exceptional day in the saddle  – start here.

The Reigate Hill Gravel Loop follows a clockwise circuit to Reigate Hill and then south of Box Hill before returning to London.
The Virginia Water Loop cycling route is a shorter alternative to the Windsor rides with a picturesque loop around Virginia Water, with a café stop overlooking the water.
The Ferny Hill Farm Loop cycling route climbs steadily up from Regents Park through Belsize Park, Hampstead and other leafy suburbs before heading into the green belt, with some relatively fast straight roads, before turning back towards London over Muswell Hill, down through Highgate and back to the park.
The Biggin Hill Loop cycling route is a relatively quick blast out of South London, around the top of the first ridge of the Downs by Biggin Hill.
The Classic Surrey Hills (shorter version) cycling route tackles three of the local hills.  Firstly, the route tackles Staple Lane which rises up to the Shere Woodlands before a steep descent down Combe Lane, followed by a hard right and second sharp climb up Crock North through Effingham Forest to Ranmore Common. The subsequent descent down through Ashcombe Wood is followed by the iconic Box Hill climb. This in turn is followed by a long descent and the return leg to East Molsey.
The Guildford Gravel Loop is flat for the first 35 km before climbing up past Chantry Wood to the top of St. Martha's Hill.
The Classic Windsor Loop cycling route is a longstanding favourite of London Dynamo riders. The route out to Windsor is a rolling one, starting just south of the river before crossing at Walton-on-Thames.
The Chartwell Loop cycling route heads over the north ridge of the Downs and, once through Westerham and up Hosey Hill, the route follows a forested loop around Chartwell and Toys Hill. Brasted Hill adds some further spice on the return leg back to London.
The Windsor Alternative Loop cycling route differs from the Classic Loop in that it does not come back so directly. Rather than shadowing the river by Staines, this route turns up Crimp Hill and Callow Hill for a lumpier and more scenic return journey. It rejoins the usual route at Chertsey.
The Surrey Trails & Hills gravel route heads down to the Box Hill area for a loop before continuing on to Ranmore Common, White Downs and Effingham Forest.
This cycling route route heads west via Virginia Water before heading north towards Maidenhead, where it turns back, stopping by Dorney Court before a return via Windsor.
The Barhatch Blinder is a a four-hill cycling route in the Surrey Hills: Staple Lane, Row Lane, Barhatch Lane and Whitedown Lane.
